February Sermon Series: Challenges to Faith
If God is all-loving and all-powerful, why is there suffering? With all of its contradictions, violence, and oppression, why bother to read the Bible? Wouldn’t we be better off without religion? These are just a few of the questions raised by non-Christians today (and Christians, too!). For the remainder of the Epiphany season, three thoughtful challenges to Christianity will be raised and responded to in this series.
February 5: Challenges to Faith: Bad Religion
February 12: Challenges to Faith: The Bible’s Troubling Passages
February 19: Challenges to Faith: God and Suffering
Lent Begins on February 22nd!
“Get ready for six weeks of feeling sad and bleak music.” For years I have heard that remark as we get closer to the Season of Lent. Yet this attitude doesn’t make sense! The word, “Lent” comes from an Old English word for “spring,” and hence the original purpose of Lent is the renewal of our lives and the renewing of community. Lent, then, is a time for turning around and starting anew; all which gives the longer days and the spring and green to come deeper meaning.

Altar Flowers
Would you like a way to honor a loved one and help decorate the sanctuary at the same time? Bring flowers to display on the altar during both Sunday services! Please consider taking part in this unique opportunity to honor a special occasion or remember a loved one. There is a sign-up on the bulletin board in the Parish Hall or call the church office to reserve a date - 952-944-6510 or email Sue Larson with your requested date!
Holy Communion
Our understanding is that Jesus gives of himself in the bread and wine and invites us to receive it for the forgiveness of sin. All are welcome at his table to receive the bread and wine or a blessing. Both wine and white grape juice are available. Please come forward using the center aisle and return to your seat using the side aisle. If you are not able to come forward to receive Communion, notify an usher and the bread and wine/grape juice will be brought to you. Note: children typically begin receiving the bread and wine following completion of First Communion instruction in the spring of their 4th grade year. Parents who have discerned their younger children’s readiness for Communion are invited to speak with one of the pastors.
Children in Worship
Children are always welcome! A staffed nursery is also available in the lower level. We provide pagers for parents to bring with them to services. If your child needs you, the nursery staff will be able to page you. Please be sure to return the pagers to the nursery when you pick up your children. The narthex area outside the doors of the sanctuary is for parents with children who need room to roam.
First Time Guests at Peace
First time guests are encouraged to fill out a Communications Card located on the chair backs, and place it in the offering basket during the worship service. Doing so helps us acknowledge your presence at Peace in a more meaningful way. We ask that guests please turn off all cell phones and pagers during worship.
Please join us in the Parish Hall for fellowship after the service.
