Ongoing Service Opportunities

VEAP Most Needed Items Ongoing Donation Collection

We have an established a drop-off bin in the Narthex for collecting “most wanted items” namely shampoo, liquid hand soap, laundry detergent, toothpaste and toothbrushes, baby wipes, personal care items, and dog and cat food. These items are always in short supply at VEAP, and they are grateful for every item they receive.

You can drop off donations on Sundays or any day of the week. Your contributions will be regularly brought over to VEAP to help replenish their shelves.

Or, you may make a check out to Peace and write “VEAP” in the memo line. Your cash donations will be forwarded to VEAP to help cost-effectively purchase pantry staples and other household needs.

Lutheran World Relief (LWR) Baby Care Kits

After our successful Lenten service project assembling LWR kits, the Service and Mission Committe has decided to make this an on-going effort.

We have set up a yellow collection bin for your donations. The items needed are:

  • New or gently used baby clothing, including sleepers, socks, hooded jackets and t-shirts (no onsies)
  • Blankets between 36″ and 52″ square
  • Cloth diapers, flat fold preferred
  • Diaper pins
  • Hand towels
  • Bars of gentle bath soap

If you would like to make a financial donation, make a check out to Peace Lutheran Church and write “LWR Kits” in the memo line.

Loaves & Fishes

Third Tuesdays of the month

Christ the King Lutheran Church (8600 Fremont Ave. S., Bloomington)

Peace serves dinner each month to our Bloomington neighbors at Christ the King Lutheran Church on the third Tuesday of the month.

Loaves and Fishes has not resumed serving meals onsite at many of the meal sites. Some, including Bloomington’s site at Christ the King Lutheran, IS a hybrid site. People can choose to eat onsite or, drive up and take the meal out. There have only been a handful of people who have chosen to eat onsite in the many months since Christ the King has gone hybrid. Due to most meals being take-away, we need far fewer Peace volunteers.

While we don’t need volunteers on the Peace evenings, many L&F sites, including some in Bloomington, still need volunteers! L&F has set up a volunteer sign-up page on their website with available dates/times at all the Minnesota meal sites. The link is: www.loavesandfishesmn.org/volunteer. Individual meal sites are at the bottom of that webpage. If you, your friends, your family want to volunteer, please visit the L&F website and sign up for a date and time that works for you!

Food Shelf Cowls

Calling all knitters and crocheters! The Groveland Emergency Food Shelf in Minneapolis provides not only emergency groceries, but also helps men and women in need stay warm with a cozy cowl.

Ready to help? Finished dimensions should be 20” high x 12” in diameter. Groveland prefers this height so that the cowl can be pulled up over the head if needed. Bulky yarn is preferred to add warmth to the cowls. Cowls may be knit on a round knitting loom, however, you can just knit or crochet in the round.

Please leave your completed cowls in the church office and the Knitting/Crochet Group will get them to the right person. Questions? Please contact Gayle Haugen at [email protected].

Peace Quilters

Tuesday, September 20 | 10:00am-12:00pm | Peace’s Parish Hall

The Peace Quilters make about 30 quilts each year, many are baby quilts given to the newly baptized members of Peace. Quilts are also given away to organizations with which Peace has a service relationship. If you are able to sew, pin, iron, tie, we could use your help! Bring a friend!

The Quilters accept fabric donations (100% cotton fabric) and all-purpose thread in any color to help this ministry.

You may bring your donation on Tuesday mornings between 9:30am-12:00pm or on Sunday and place in the staff office area.

Questions? Please email Lori Thomson.
