Peace is always looking to find more willing people to volunteer their time as service assistants. Below is a listing of all our jobs and in what ways you can serve.Descriptions are listed below.
Audio Visual Techs run the sound board and computer during worship services. Usually the Sunday morning services just require the sound board. Anyone in high school through adult can be an Audio Visual Technician.
Technicians are needed for the Sunday morning service(s). We may need people for additional services throughout the year for things such as Advent or Lenten services. As an Audio Visual Technician, you should arrive fifteen minutes before the service and you will be done following the end of the service.
Communion Assistants set up and clean up the communion supplies on Communion Sundays. They also assist the pastor with serving the communion during worship. We need one or two volunteers per service. The assistants may distribute the wine or collect communion cups. The detailed instructions for this process are posted in the kitchen on the upper left cupboards along the back wall. Anyone in high school through adult can be a Communion Assistant.
Communion Assistants are needed for Sunday morning service(s) on the first and third Sunday of the month. We may need people for additional services throughout the year. As a Communion Assistant you will need to arrive 20-25 minutes before the service begins to set up the wine and bread. The cleanup afterward should take about fifteen minutes.
Greeters are responsible for welcoming people to worship with a hearty hello and a handshake. In the winter you welcome worshippers in the narthex right by the front entrance. In summer you greet worshippers outside on the walkway into church. To further hospitality, after each service, greeters are asked to be available near the pastor in the narthex as he is shaking hands. If a visitor has a question or would like more information the pastor will introduce the visitor to the greeter. The greeter can then offer the visitor coffee, talk to them about Peace, and offer them more information. Anyone can volunteer their time to be a greeter.
Greeters will work during Sunday morning services and may be needed for additional services throughout the year. Greeters need to be ready to welcome worshippers about fifteen minutes before the start of the worship service and go into the service until the opening hymn starts. They also need to be available after the service to speak with visitors as necessary.
Hosts are in charge of setting and cleaning up the beverages and donuts for the Sunday morning fellowship time. The coffee will already be made so the job involves cutting and setting out the donuts, setting out the drinks (apple juice, sometimes milk and/or cider), setting out the paper products, and cleaning up afterward. Also to set out the free will offering basket. At clean up they will then put the money in an envelope, label it donut money and put the envelope in the office drop box. The detailed instructions are posted in the kitchen on the stainless steel table under the serving windows. Anyone can be a Host.
Hosts will work on Sundays between services (September-May) or after the Summer Service. It requires about half an hour to set up and about fifteen minutes to clean up.
Lectors read the lesson during the service. The lesson will be mailed to you the week prior to the service. High school students through adults can volunteer for this.
Lectors are needed for all Sunday morning services. We may also need volunteers for additional services throughout the year. It will take as much prep time as you feel necessary to prepare for this – all you need to do is read during the service.
Offering Counters will count the Sunday offer and then deposit it in the bank. Training can be provided either by phone or in person. Adults may serve in this position.
Offering Counters are needed after the last Sunday service. It will take approximately 1-2 hours per week.
Snow Shovelers will shovel snow from the front walkway, the sidewalk, and the path to Peace House. This will need to be done before the Sunday morning service if snow has fallen during the week. Anyone can be a shoveler.
We will run a weekly schedule for this service during the winter. If it snows during the week you are on call, you would need to come to church some time prior to Sunday to shovel the walkway, sidewalk, and path. The time it will take is connected to how much snow is on the ground!
Ushering involves handing out bulletins, seating people, collecting offering, and ushering people up for communion. Ushers also count the number of people attending and check the sanctuary after church for any articles left behind. Detailed instructions are found in the upper left hand drawer of the cabinet in the narthex. Anyone can be an usher – it is a great opportunity for a whole family.
Ushers are needed for each Sunday service and any additional services throughout the year. Ushers need to be ready for welcoming worshippers about fifteen minutes before the start of the worship service and available for ten minutes after the service to look over the sanctuary.
