Peace is governed by a church council comprised of nine elected members of the congregation who serve three-year terms and Pastor Mark Nelson. The Church Council meets monthly.
2017-18 Church Council Members
Scott Anderson, President
Scott Anderson and his wife Willow, have been members of Peace since 2010. They have two boys, Niklas and Henrik and live in West Bloomington. Scott was raised in St. Paul. He currently serves as Vice President of Merchandise for Best Buy Co. Scott’s hobbies include triathlons, travel, trivia, and trying to keep up with his boys. His favorite verse is Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Dave Gehant, Vice President
David Gehant and his family have been members of Peace Lutheran Church since 2005. He grew up in on the shores of the Mississippi River in Little Falls, MN, earned a B.A. degree in Biology and Chemistry in 1995, an M.B.A. from Hamline University in 2010, and currently works as a leader in the software and technology industry. In addition to appreciating the daily rewards of raising two kids with his wife, Kimberly, David enjoys playing/coaching hockey, traveling, spending time at the lake with family, and serving on the Board of Directors for the Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance.
Mary Kautto, Treasurer
Mary Kautto is a nurse care coordinator for children and adults with complex medical needs. She retired from Shriners Hospital after 33 years and lots of travel around the upper Midwest. She is now in a similar role at Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare and travels are limited to greater Minnesota. This work allows her to frequently return to her “Ranger” roots in Northern Minnesota. Mary has a member of Peace Lutheran Church for over 25 years and active in choir, Service and Mission, and Stewardship Committees. She looks forward to serving on the Church Council again and being a part of the future of Peace.
Andrew Stockinger, Secretary
Andy Stockinger and his wife Michelle have been members of Peace since 2014. They have three daughters, Elena, Evie, and Caroline and live nearby in West Bloomington (they should walk to church more often). Andy works in product management at Pearson VUE located just across from Normandale Lake (Andy should walk to work more often). To compensate for not walking enough, Andy enjoys nordic skiing on the terrific trails at Hyland and driving his daughters to an ever expanding number of after school activities.
Council Members at Large
Tom Gilmore has been a member of Peace since 2004. He was born in Minneapolis and has lived in Bloomington most of his life. Tom graduated from Thomas Jefferson Sr. High school. After high school, he attended Normandale Community College and eventually graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BS degree in Mortuary Science and became a licensed funeral director. He worked in this field for approximately four years in Le Sueur then moved to Duluth where he was a sales representative for Sandoz Pharmaceuticals (now Novartis) for six years. He returned to Bloomington where he has been working for the University of Minnesota, Schulze Diabetes Institute for the last number of years on islet cell research and transplantation for diabetic patients as a treatment and potential cure for this disease.
Ben Hanson and his wife, Emily, have been members of Peace since 2010. Ben sings, directs the Peace Symphonic Winds, plays guitar, and “coaches” the Peace men’s softball team. He is a 5th grade band teacher in the Columbia Heights school district. He loves spending time with his wife, Emily, and his three children, James, Myra, and Henry.
Kari Rogers spent the first third of her life in Hutchinson, MN and moved to Eagan in 8th grade when her dad received the call to be pastor at Grace Lutheran Church in Bloomington. She graduated from St. Olaf College with a degree in Nursing and Nordic Studies. She married her husband, Logan, in 2010 and now keeps busy with three children, Asher, Ayla, and Anja. Kari and Logan moved to Bloomington in September, 2013 and joined Peace in January, 2014. Kari works half-time as an operating room nurse at Abbott Northwestern Hospital primarily with the spine team. When she isn’t at the hospital, she spends time with her Norwex business, friends and family, traveling, and trying out new restaurants.
Matt Toppin has been a Peace member with his wife, Lauren, since 2010. He was born and raised in Hastings, MN then graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College with a degree in Political Science and International Management. Post college, Matt changed careers to teaching and has since been a math teacher, instructional coach, and summer school principal. He currently is a 7th grade math teacher at Hiawatha College Prep in south Minneapolis. Matt and Lauren have two children, Luke, who keeps them busy as ever and Audrey. He is looking forward to service on the Church Council in the years ahead.
Allie Wagstrom, her husband Pete and daughter Gloria joined Peace Lutheran Church in 2015. They love the community in Christ that is present at Peace. Originally from a small town in southeast Minnesota, Allie Wagstrom attended DePauw University. Allie combines her passions of community engagement and a love of finance as Portfolio Manager for Nonprofits Assistance Fund, a community development fund located in Minneapolis. Dedicated to the advancement of women’s leadership, she developed and led the Leaders of Today and Tomorrow (LOTT) Fellowship Program.
